Grand Rapids Growth

A West Michigan tradition, the 2018 Grand Rapids Boat Show is just a month away and the excitement is building with the local performance boat community. In a conversation with Chris Dekker, a founding board member of West Michigan Offshore, the Michigan native said that this year’s 73rd annual Grand Rapids Boat Show, which takes place February 14-18, is going to be one of the best in terms of go-fast boat representation.

Gratton Memorial Fun Run Faces Challenges

Heading into its seventh year today, the annual Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun faced a couple of major hurdles that came in the form unseasonably cold and blustery weather in Sarasota, Fla., and a solo-boat incident that sent four people to hospital. While details of the incident are unclear at this time, multiple sources have confirmed that it involved a 36-foot Skater catamaran owned and operated by seasoned performance boat enthusiast and former offshore racer Matt Rice.

Fort Myers Offshore Draws Largest Fleet In Club History

Yesterday’s fleet of 74-boats at the Fort Myers Offshore New Year’s Day Fun Run wasn’t just an outstanding turnout for the event, it was the largest field of high-performance catamarans, V-bottoms and center consoles gathered in the western Florida-based club’s 12-plus-year history. That many of the participants also are in town for Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run up the coast tomorrow in Sarasota  didn’t make the turnout any less impressive.

Fort Myers Offshore Raises Approximately $5,000 For College Scholarship Fund In Thanksgiving Run

While last weekend’s Thanksgiving Run for lunch at the Captain’s Table at Harpoon Harry’s in Punta Gorda, Fla., was the third event on the 2017/2018 Fort Myers Offshore calendar, it was the nonprofit organization’s first designated fundraiser of the season. And thanks to “renewals and the generosity of our membership,” according to Fort Myers Offshore president Eric Belisle, this season’s college scholarship fundraising efforts are off to a great start.
